So, Corie and I were decorating Christmas cookies b/c the kids gave up on them after about a dozen. I decided I was going to get creative with one of the (sugar cookie) 'gingerbread' men. I decided one must be made into Conan. I spent a ridiculous amount of time making the right color of frosting for his hair. Especially considering how little I needed. And I sat there picking out just the right size blue and green sprinkles for his tie.

The pic was taken on dad's cell so it's kind of crappy quality. And Ryan had picked it up to move it, so his hair is kinda flattened and lost some of the pomp. But you get the idea.

I'm waiting to eat him when I make my cocoa. I bet he will be delicious. XD

The tail is Colby cheese slices, the body is cheeseball, the wings and feet are crackers, the neck is a baby carrot, the beak is colby, the wattle & snood are carrot shavings and the eyes are peppercorns.

Sorry for the pic quality. They were taken with my dad's camera phone.

Twins had their first day of 1st grade today. Apparently, Ryan announced in front of the entire class the he had peed the bed. *facepalm* He hasn't peed in a long time, but I guess him and Thomas both did last night. I attribute it to tiring themselves out yesterday and first day jitters. Still...

Anyway, I had planned to get up and then go back to bed for a bit. I ended up not waking up until nearly 1pm. I went and laid back down until 3 and watched TV. When I got up I had cucumber sandwiches and mint tea for lunch. Well, it was technically breakfast since I hadn't eaten yet, but...

I had also planned on giving my eyes and brain a rest today from reading. I've read 3 whole books in 6 days. I ended up starting the 4th one last night. I'll probably do another couple chapters before bed tonight. I'm bad at following through. lol

I've been feeling creative lately. I might make some icons/banners/something this week. We'll see how up to it I am.

Not really anything else I wanted to say right now...

I just made some yummy Eggplant Parm for dinner tonight. A couple days ago my grandma brought over 4 small Chinese eggplants (the long skinny ones). I couldn't do a stuffed eggplant parm like I wanted, nor a layered one like a lot of people do. The pieces were so small I had to mix the sauce and cheese in, kind of like baked ziti. It was still pretty yummy.

OH! This morning (Monday morning, I guess) there was a fire at brother's work! I guess, one of their machines broke down and one of the guys went into the house (their office is in an old farmhouse on the property) to pee and came back telling a manager he smelled smoke. He went and checked it out and came back in yelling "THE BARN'S ON FIRE!". (on a lighter note: one of the guys thought he said "A BIRD'S ON FIRE!" LOL) They went out to try and put it out while 3 different guys called 911. Luckily it was just the barn where they store boxes and bags and things, so it wasn't really TOO big a loss. They got to come home early. I keep joking with brother that he started it so he could come home and take a nap, since that's what he did. They aren't sure what started it, but the workers are pretty sure it was the garage door motor b/c before the fire departments got there the door came slamming down on it's own. They go back tomorrow, so only one lost day of work. Here's a vid from the 6 o'clock news:

They went to order my fiestadas today. They actually got to bring a box home today b/c they had one in stock. 96 fiestadas. Well, 90. I had 3 and traded them 3 for 3 pizzas. We're also gonna trade a couple dozen pizzas for fiestadas. You have no idea how excited I am.

And for those of you that don't know fiestadas, I found this article.

Two weeks from yesterday, actually, until they're off to Chicago. They're going to go order my fiestadas tomorrow morning, too. And they're picking up a box of their own and a box of pizzas. I know what the kids are eating a lot of while they're gone. LOL. I'll easily have a dozen of my fiestadas one by the time they get back. That's okay, each box has 8 dozen. I'll be feasting on fiestadas for a while, me thinks.

And I'm so bad. I had a handful of pretzels and a banana split for dinner tonight. It's no wonder I'm fat. LOL.

urgh. I think i'm getting over an intestinal bug. For the last 4 days or so, I've been having some intestinal issues. They finally seem to be tapering off. On top of that, I haven't been sleeping very well. So now I feel like crap. I hope I'll feel better by this weekend.

Does anyone else out there have the same problem as I do? There are a few family recipes (chicken and rice, fidello, tortillas, tamales, menudo, etc.) that you can easily make, but when you're trying to explain it to someone else you have to sit and think about it and almost re-enact the steps in order to make sure you don't forget something? Monday night Corie decided to make rice and was double checking with me on it and I actually had to stand there and pretend I was making it in order to make sure I told her right. All our family recipes are done by eye, so it's really hard to explain to her.

One week until I'll be watching the kids for 4 days (Thursday afternoon-Sunday night) while brother and Corie are off in Chicago at ACen (Anime Central). I'm not really looking forward to it. Of course, I'll be getting $40-$50 plus a yaoi. And a yaoi that he owes me from the last con. I told him more LOTR or some POTC are my first choice. I'd have him look for something from one of the Animes I watch, but they mostly have girls in them. Unless he found a Hideki/Shinbo. LOTR and POTC are still my #1 choices. I already have 2 LOTR yaoi, so it would add to my collection nicely.

Woot!

So, I got my tax return check on Monday and dad brought it to me yesterday morning.

It was only $52. I cashed it, bought lunch for everyone ($10) then went to Wal-mart and got some Ibuprofin, jellybeans, candy bars (1 for me, 1 for Corie), and some ice cream. I've got about $30 left. Brother talked to Corie on the phone while I was on my way home and wanted her to ask me about something we'd talked about. I'm glad he did. He wanted to know if I still wanted to go halfsies on a case of Fiestadas. Yum! So, I'll be giving him my money, or rather $28 sometime this weekend or so, so he can run to GFS and get a case of Fiestadas. I can't wait. I'll have 4 dozen all to myself. Although, I haven't had them in so long, I can almost guarantee they'll be all gone within two weeks. I'll be extremely surprised if I have any left after that.

Anyway, yeah, I'm super excited about Fiestadas.

Lame reason for excitement and an update, but so what. :p

So, over the past 3-4 weeks I've made about 18 dozen cookies. I made about 3 dozen Hershey's Special dark chocolate chips, 3 dozen Ghirardelli 60% cocoa chips, 3 dozen Andes chips, 3 dozen sugar, and about 6 dozen Andes peppermint chip sugar cookies that I made up. They were so yummy I thought I'd share my recipe.

Christina's Peppermint Sugar Cookies

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup margarine (or butter) softened
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 package Andes peppermint chips

Pre-heat oven to 400°.

Combine sugar, margarine, milk, vanilla and egg; mix well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour, baking powder and salt; mix well. Add peppermint chips; mix well.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400° 7-12 minutes or until edges are light golden brown.

Makes about 3 dozen.

Now, I've never made this, but my mom has made it the last couple years for Christmas, so I know it's good.

Mushroom paté

1/4 c. margerine
1 tbs. minced garlic
1/2 c chopped green onions
1 lb. finely chopped fresh mushrooms
10 oz. softened cream cheese
1/2 tsp. chicken base
2/3 c. water

In skillet, melt margerine. Saute mushrooms 2-3 minutes. Add garlic and green onions. Saute 2-3 minutes more. Mix chicken base and water, add to mushroom mixture. Cook until no more liquid. This may take a while.

Mix cream cheese to soften more. Add mushroom mixture and mix well. Put in mold and let rest in refrigerator overnight.

Mmmm...

I just made the bestest mixed drink ever.

First, I put a little bit of Hansen's Strawberry Banana Smoothie & Peach Berry Smoothie.

Then I filled the glass almost all the way to the top with Orange Juice. It's in a tall beer glass.

Then I added a shot of Blavod. You could always add more for more kick.

It has a nice little fade effect from 'black' (really just very dark purple) to a pinkish-orange. And it's mighty yummy.
