On with the story...

~ Chapter 1 ~

Norm bursts into the hotel room, “Okay, lads, look sharp.”

“Norm, you should have let us know you were coming up, we could have had some slop ready for you.” John oinks at Norm.

“Shut up, Lennon.” John oinks at him again. Norm ignores him and straightens a stack of magazines on a table. “Get this place straightened up. My niece is on her way here.”

“Why,” George asks, taking a bite out of his sandwich.

“I sort of promised her that she could meet you guys the next time we were in town.” He looks at his watch, “In fact, she’ll be here any minute. I’ll go meet her in the lobby and bring her up.” He turns to walk out the door. Just as he is about to close the door, he sticks his head back in, “And none of your shenanigans. She’s a very nice young lady.” He shuts the door.

“Probably a swine just like her uncle,” John says as he hops over the back of the couch to sit down.

“You never know,” Ringo says, “she could be a very nice girl.”

“Yeah, she could be adopted...”John adds.

“She’s probably just some thirteen year old kid,” Paul replies. “Let’s be nice.”

After the boys do a bit of tidying up, Norm comes back into the room. “Okay, in a line, the lot of you.”

“Yes sir, Sergeant Swine!” John salutes Norm in a military fashion.

“Shut up, John.” Norm goes back into the hall and comes back, followed by his niece. She is not what the boys expected at all. She is tall and leggy and has dark brown hair slightly longer than shoulder length. She has big brown eyes that could see right down to your soul. She is wearing calf high black boots and a short black and white checked dress. She was the kind of girl that Paul and John are used to wooing.

John leans behind Ringo and whispers to Paul, “...some thirteen year old kid!”

“Boys,” Norm interrupts, “this is my niece, Katorea.” He leads her in front of the boys, introducing each one. “This is John Lennon.”

“ ‘ullo, luv,” John nods.

“Hello,” she replies, a soft smile on her face.

“...Ringo Starr...” Norm continues.

“Nice to meet you.” Ringo shakes her hand.

“Same here,” she answers, still smiling.

“...Paul McCartney...”

Paul takes her hand in his and she appears to become nervous. ‘Isn’t that cute. She’s awestruck,’ he thinks to himself. “The pleasure is all mine, my dear,” he bows and kisses her hand, showing his usual charm.

“Um...yeah...” is all she says, giving Paul a weird look. John can be heard stifling his laughter.

Norm then moves her in front of George. Her face lights up. “...and here, we have...”

“...George Harrison,” she interrupts. She just looks at him.

“ ‘ullo, pleased to meet you,” he says as he takes her hand.

“The pleasure is all mine.” She can feel herself blush. George lets go of her hand.

Just then Shake comes in from the hallway. “Norm, we’ve got a problem. You’d better take this call and see what’s the matter.”

“Okay. Boys, will you entertain her ‘til I get back?”

“Sure,” Ringo answers.

“Good. Katorea,” she turns to him. “Stay here with them. I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

“Yes, Uncle Norm.” He leaves the room.

“Please, sit down,” Ringo says.

“Thank you.” She chooses a chair across from the couch. John and Paul sit on the couch. Ringo sits in the other chair.

“Would you like something to drink?” George offers, before he sits down.

“A Pepsi, if you have one.” She straightens her dress and hair.

George walks back over with two bottles of Pepsi with straws in them. “Here ya go.” He hands her one of them. When she grabs the bottle, their fingers touch and their eyes meet. “I…uh…thought you might like a straw.”

“Thank you, George,” she smiles and continues, “that was sweet of you.”

This time George can feel himself blush. John, once again, can be heard stifling his laughter. Katorea and George keep their eyes locked on each other as George sits on the couch between John and Paul. They both take a sip of Pepsi.

“Mum or Dad?” John inquires.

Katorea breaks her eye contact with George. She turns her head toward John, “Excuse me?”

“How are you and the swine related?” John clarifies.

“Uncle Norm? He’s mother’s baby brother.”

“Has he always been a swine?”

“He’s just very high strung. Managing the Beatles can be very frustrating. I’ve heard some horror stories about you guys,” she smiles. The boys all get a mischievous grin on their faces. She continues, “He really is very nice. We’ve always been very close. I guess it has something to do with us both being the youngest in our families. You have no idea how stressful that is. Especially with brothers.”

“I have a younger brother,” Paul says, in an obvious attempt to impress Katorea.

The boys all look at him. John speaks up, “Our Georgie here is the youngest in his family, too. And he has two older brothers.” John seemed to be trying to set up George and Katorea. At least, that’s what it seemed like to her. She appreciated it, if that was his intent.

Katorea smiles softly. She already knew that, but she didn’t let them know. She turns to George, “Really?”

George blushes. “Yeah. Harry and Peter. I have an older sister, Louise, too. She’s the oldest. Then Harry, then Peter, then me.”

“That’s odd. I have three brothers. Poor Louise. I feel sorry for her,” Katorea jokingly states.

“What are their names, then?” John asks.

“Well, there’s Henry, then John, then Leslie.”

George’s face shows an expression of wonder. “That is odd. I’ve got relatives by all those names. Henry and John are my grandfathers on either side, with a John being Henry’s grandfather as well. And Leslie is Lou’s youngest!”

“This is like the ‘Twilight Zone’ or something!” Ringo exclaims.

John notices that Paul doesn’t like the fact that Katorea and George have so much in common. Just to spite him he asks Katorea, “What are your Mum and Dad’s names?”

“Marilyn and Joseph,” She answered.

“Any relatives by those names, Georgie?”

“None that I can think of,” he replied.

“What a shame,” John mockingly retorts. Paul gives him a look of disgust. John just smiles at him.

“Well, what shall we do until Norm gets back, then?” Ringo wonders.

“Why don’t we play poker?” John suggests while taking a deck of cards out of his jacket pocket. They all move to a card table with four chairs around it. Katorea pulls up a chair to the corner between Ringo and John. Ringo takes the cards from John and starts to shuffle them. “Why don’t you sit out a couple of hands to make sure you have the hang of the game,” he states.

As he starts to deal the cards, John motions to George, who is lighting a cigarette, “Gotta watch out for him…”

“Oh?” Katorea replies.

“He likes to cheat,” Ringo finishes.

George blushes, “I do not cheat…”

“Whatever, George,” Paul rolls his eyes. “Are we going to play for money, or are we just going to play a warm-up game to get Katorea acquainted?” he continues.

“Let’s just play a warm-up game,” George suggests. “You’re broke again, aren’t you, Harrison?” John states flatly.

George gives them all a ‘How’d you guess?’ look. They all sigh. “You bought a new guitar today, didn’t you?” Ringo asks.

“Yeah,” he said sheepishly. “But it’s great. You gotta see it!” he adds.

“I’m sure we’ll hear all about it later. Let’s get playing,” Paul declares, somewhat annoyed.
