Nea; & Kim named the baby
Catilena Nycole. Personally, I don't like it. I actually asked Neal if one of them was eating a salad when they named her (as in Catalina dressing). I don't think it fits with our last name. I've decided I'm going to call her New York because her middle name is spelled with N-Y-C. It was the way Neal told me that that made me decide that. He said, "N-Y-C, like New York City", so I told him I was calling her New York.
I guess Kim's mom calls her Nina. When dad told me at first, I thought for half a second he said Lena, which would make sense. But he said no, it was Nina. When she called her that the first time, I guess Neal asked her why and she said, "I wanted her name to be Nina, so that's what I'm calling her". How rude is that? Neal tried to explain that we have a cousin named Nina (actually Niña Nicole) and he wasn't going to name his daughter the same exact thing as his cousin. Apparently she doesn't care and continues to call her Nina. If she wants to call her grandkid a name other than what it actually is and sound like amoron, that's fine with me. But then, according to Neal, there are only 2 of her grandkids (she's got like 6 or something now) that she calls anything that's even close to their names. Whatever.
I got to see her Saturday afternoon. She looks small, but I guess she was 9lbs 1oz when she was born, so she's not really all that small. She's still a little red in the face and she's still peeling a little. She's kinda dark, which makes sense since Neal is the darkest of us kids. She's also got a full head of black hair. She got most of her features from Neal, though she's got Kim's chin.

You're mostly human, but evidently some part of you is feline in the way you think. Maybe you were a cat once, many generations ago, or perhaps your mind just works like that. |

Date: 2006-05-22 02:24 pm (UTC)We once had a relative who called our niece Alicia, her middle name, and openly told the mother it was b/c she didn't like the baby's first name and she liked the middle name better. It was the mom's first child and she was so crushed.
I think New York is a cute nickname. The Big Apple of your eye : )

Date: 2006-05-22 02:35 pm (UTC)And calling a kid by their middle name is at least using a name that belongs to them. My dad and one brother go by their middle name. She's just mad they didn't use the name she wanted.
And from what I've seen/heard, she sleeps a lot. So far. That could always change, of course.

Date: 2006-05-22 04:36 pm (UTC)Yeah, New York is good nick name or as Anna was saying "Big Apple"...LOL! :)
All babies look kind of small at first. Give her a month or so, she'll look and feel bigger, trust me. And she sounds like me and Cassandra when we were born...LOTS of black hair. I hate it when babies are born bald. They look like such EGGHEADS! ( I know, aren't I just MEAN?) But it's TRUE!
