Well, I'm back online at home and I have several chapters ready to go. Let's start off where we left off, shall we? (This one's a little long, but it is a transitional chapter and it'll help set up some future chapters as well.)
Knock, knock. Anita looked up at the door. She was answered before she could even ask who it was. "Room service."
She hadn't ordered room service. "Just a second." She tightened the sash on her robe and answered the door. "Um...I didn't order room service..."
"The gentleman ordered."
"Oh. Alright. Go ahead and put it next to the table." She signed the bill and sent the kid on his way. She went to the table to inspect the cart. There were a few covered trays and a bottle of wine. Just as she was about to peek under one of the covers, Karl cleared his throat behind her. She pulled her hand away from the lid.
"Good. Dinner's here." Karl put on his pants and tossed his towel on the bed. He pulled Anita's chair out for her. "I was hungry when I woke up and I figured you probably were as well."
"Actually, now that you mention it, I am kinda hungry."
"Great. I hope you like what I ordered." He sat down and lifted the cover off the first tray. It was Shrimp Scampi and Linguine.
"Mmm..." Anita's mouth was already watering. He lifted another lid and there was hot bread. Under the last lid was a plate of assorted fresh fruit and chocolate fondue. Anita almost slid out of her seat to the floor. He'd ordered some of her favorite foods.
Karl smiled at her reaction. Obviously he'd done a good job ordering. He opened the wine and poured them each a glass. It was a nice Sparkling Rosé.
Anita took a sip of the wine. "Mmm. I think you may just be the perfect man..." Karl chuckled at her. He got a little of the pasta on his fork and offered it to Anita. Almost as soon as it touched her tongue, she hummed in delight. "I know we just met, but I think I just fell in love with you." Karl took a forkful of the pasta. "Ooh. Would you like some dinner music, perhaps?"
"That would be nice," Karl agreed as he picked up a piece of bread and began to butter it. Anita went to her laptop and put in a jazz CD and went back to the table. They ate in silence, for the most part, just enjoying their food. About halfway through the meal, Karl stopped eating. "This album is great. Who is it?"
"It's a sax quartet called Sax 4th Avenue. Olivia, one of my friends I came here with, is friends with one of the members. She gave me the CD for my birthday last year."
"Do you know where I can get a copy?"
"You can get it online, but I'm not sure where. I know that Olivia has several copies, though. I could ask her if she can get you one."
"That would be great. Thanks." They finished eating in silence.
When they were done, Karl grabbed the bottle of wine and his glass and motioned for Anita to follow him. He led her out to the balcony.
Anita looked out on the horizon, "It's so beautiful here."
Karl hummed in agreement. "When are you ladies leaving?"
"A week from Saturday."
He nodded in acknowledgement. After a moment of careful thinking, he spoke up. "So, Ani... was this a one time thing, or can I see you again? Because I'd really like to see you some more before you leave."
"I'd like it very much if you'd see me some more," she smiled.
Just then they heard a whoop from below. They looked down at the yard and saw Anita's friends waving at them. They yelled greetings up to them. Anita and Karl waved to them before they disappeared around the building.
"They'll be coming up now. And they're gonna want to meet you. So, if you don't want to deal with a horde of chattering women, we'll have to slip you out of here soon."
"I wouldn't mind meeting them." He smiled at her. "Besidees, it'll give me a chance to find out more about you."
"If you're going to meet them, may I suggest you finish getting dressed," Anita raised an eyebrow at him.
They went back into the room and he put his shirt on while Anita went into the bathroom to get dressed. While she was still in there, there was a knock on the door. Karl answered it. Four chattering girls filed in.
"Where's Ani?" one of them asked as she sat at the table and picked up one of the strawberries Anita and Karl had left on the plate.
"In the bathroom." One of the other girls sat on Anita's bed, right on Karl's damp towel. She yelped and stood, pulling it out from under her. Karl blushed and grabbed for it. "Sorry about that." He tossed it over his shoulder so he could throw it in the bathroom when Anita came out.
"Oh, stop torturing the poor man, you guys," a voice behind him chided the girls. She stuck her hand out for Karl. "Hi, I'm Olivia." He shook her hand. "Where's Anita?"
"Bathroom," the other four answered.
She nodded and continued talking to Karl. "You're the surfer from the beach."
"Uh, yeah. Karl."
"Karl, right..." Anita came out of the bathroom before she could say anything else. "Hey there. I was just meeting your...friend, here."
"I hope you were being nice."
"I'm always nice." The other four giggled at her. "What? I am!" They all rolled their eyes at her. "I was nice to you, wasn't I, Karl?"
"Yes, very pleasent."
"See."
"Alright. Have you met everyone?" Anita asked.
"Just Olivia."
Pointing them out as she introduced them, she went around the room. "Okay. That just leaves: Allison, Laurie, Diane and Becky." She, Olivia and Karl sat down so that they could all have a proper discussion.
A couple hours later, Karl straightened in his seat. "Shit. What time is it?" He looked around the room for a clock.
"Eight-thirty," Allison answered.
"I have to go. I have to be up in seven and a half hours. I've got an early call tomorrow." He stood. "It was very nice meeting you all.
And you'll get me that CD when I come back in a few days, Olivia?"
"Yep. I'll have to dig my spare out, but you'll get it the next time I see you."
"Cool." He turned to Anita. "You want to walk me out?" She nodded at him. Their elevator ride and walk to his car were quiet. He unlocked his car door and turned to face her. "So, I'll see you in a few days, I guess."
"I guess." There was an awkward silence.
"Well, I had a great time with you today."
"Me, too. It was really nice."
Karl leaned in and pulled her in for a kiss. "I'll see you. Good-night."
"Good-night." He leaned in for another quick kiss before getting in his car.
