domino43: (1776 - turkey)

So, little brother is finally home after being here for over a week. Haven't had much time to be online since he sort of hijacked the comp. Then today I was waiting for a package for dad that never came and he just got a call that would be coming tomorrow.

Anyway, on to Thaksgiving stuff.

I did a bit of cleaning here and there when I had time, but I didn't get a whole lot done. Of course, being a 16-year-old boy, Austin wouldn't help.

Wednesday was spent preparing things, such as Tamale meat and pre mixing the green bean casserole so it could just get onions on the top and popped into the oven on Thursday. Dad and I finally got to bed about 4am. Got up about 7:45am to start getting the turkey ready. While I was doing stuffing and all that, dad made the masa for the tamales. Finally we got Austin to do a little bit of cleaning. Didn't get the turkey in until late. Luckily it was a small turkey so it didn't take too long. We had to wait for Neal and Kim to get here so Kim could help with tamales. In all truthfulness, it started out that she was the only one making them until I got done with everything I was doing and rested a bit. I realized that they'd never get done if she was the only one to do them. So her and I did those for a while. Then she went back to the baby and I was the only one doing them for a bit. After I got enough done for a batch, we put them on to cook and after another little bit of rest dad decided to help me roll them. We got them done a lot quicker then. I was going to make some gorditas as well, but when i tried one, the meat was too fresh and wet (dad had just mixed up a new batch), so we went back to strictly tamales. We finally ran out of masa. By then dad and I were too tired to worry about making more, so the meat got thrown into the freezer. Now that the tamales we did make are almost gone, it's about time to make enough masa to finish it off. Anyway, back to Thanksgiving Day. We all ate, blah, blah. Typical Thanksgiving, actually. Kim and Neal had to leave rightr after pie because they had a dinner with her family still. Paul hung around a little longer then went home to sleep. Clayton missed the dinner. Apperently he was at his girlfriend's. Most of us didn't even know he had a girlfriend. None of us has seen her yet. Grandma and Uncle stopped by (remind me to tell you guys the screweiness of them later. It's a very interesting story.) for a bit. They were waiting to make their tamales until later. After everyone was gone we all just kind of sat around for a little while. Afraid I'd miss Conan, I didn't get to bed until well after 1:30, possibly closer to 2am.

Friday I didn't really do much. Saturday, I was supposed to donate plasma, but when I got there a nurse (or was it the doctor?) called me back to her office and told me my last blood test had come back and one of my protein types was a little abnormal. It was slightly high. I couldn't donate, but they would get another blood test and send it in for testing. It will be 7-10 business days before they get the results and then they'll call me and let me know what's going on. If it's still abnormal, they'll have me come in for antoher blood test. Forunately, the type of protein that was abnormal, she said was probably due to either some dehydration that day, or it was environmental and I came into contact with something that had messed with my sinuses or it was an allergy. Well, I don't have allergies and I try to keep myslef hydrated, so it's probably just sinuses. I won'r hear anything until next Tuesday, at the earliest. I'm sure everything will be fine. But since I have no money coming in, I'll be staying home quite a bit for the next week or so.

Didn't really do anything yesterday either. Although, it was a bit funny. When I woke up, we had a freezer full of meat. I don't know if any of you have this around where you live, but around here there are afew companies that have trucks driving around with freezers in the back selling meat. Well, dad bought some while I was asleep yesterday. He usually only does that when he can talk them down to some rediculous price. Although he is quite good at that. So now we have a freezer full of hamburger patties, 3 kinds of steak, filet mignon, shrimp, breaded shrimp, fish, King Crab and Snow Crab legs. And that's just the stuff I saw. Who knows what else he bought. This after we just cooked anything resembling beef or pork for tamales, partly just to empty the freezer.

And today, I already told you about way up there^.
